Big thanks to our AABC conservation accredited architect and Director, Jeremy Poll, for his fascinating guided tour of the buildings at Winchester College last week.
The office outing gave our staff the opportunity to see some of the specialised repair and conservation work undertaken by the practice.
Particular focus was given to the Grade I Listed War Cloister (1924), where Jeremy is currently overseeing a comprehensive package of repair and re-presentations works.
The quadrangle War Cloister was designed by renowned architect Sir Herbert Baker as a war memorial to commemorate college students (Wykehamists) that were killed during the First World War. The sensitive restoration of paintwork to each of the commemorative plaques and bosses is the current focus of attention and is being carried out by specialist paint conservators from Sally Strachey Historic Conservation.
