The Old Parsonage, Otterbourne

We are delighted to announce that a scheme for 16 No. 2-bed close care apartments at the grade II listed Old Parsonage in Otterbourne was granted planning and listed building consent at this month’s planning committee meeting.

The scheme was designed by Radley House Partnership for The Brendoncare Foundation, the Winchester based charity that owns and runs the current facility. Following re-location of the former care home to a new facility at Otterbourne Hill last August, Brendoncare can now increase its care offering for the local community.

The plans allow for the removal of the harmful 1980’s care wing so that the listed building can be returned to the standalone building it once was. 12 new close care apartments with communal facilities will be built in the care wings place, which are arranged around a prominent central axis and joined by an open balcony link. A further 4 apartments will be located in the listed building, which will undergo sympathetic repair and refurbishment.

Concept scheme for a new Contemporary Dwelling on the outskirts of Shawford, Winchester.

This Paragraph 79 house has been designed to utilise the steep gradient of the site, to conceal its lowel levels and to insure it sits subtly within its plot.

It has also been designed to capture views of the Itchen Valley while also maximising natural light within its spaces.

A New Arrival

Springvale Road, Kings Worthy, Winchester

Planning permission has now been granted for a new residential development within Kings Worthy. The new scheme will consist of 13no traditional family homes located on a steep and prominent site accessed from Springvale Road.

Hook Lane, Westergate

A planning application for a new housing scheme on the outskirts of Chichester has now been submitted to Arun district council. This traditional scheme consists of 14no units designed around a central communal open space, all set within a semi-rural environment.

Fantastic to see our latest contribution to The Tower of London now complete.  The works comprised improvements to the hard landscaping around the Bloody Tower to compliment a new interpretation scheme by Northover Brown.

Gan Canny, Man!

Following over 30 years at the top, our longest standing Partner and Director, Neil Frederick Pritchard, has decided to hang up his set square from 01 October 2018 and retire for an easier life with the grandchildren.

The Sunderland lad joined the practice in the early 80’s as an enthusiastic young upstart having previously worked in the north east where he also studied Architecture at Newcastle University.  During this time, the practice, then a Partnership named Burford, Marlow & Carden, changed its name to the Radley House Partnership, following relocation to our current premises at Radley House on St Cross Road, Winchester.   An overseas office in Qatar in the booming Middle East had also been established, which Neil moved to in 1983 and successfully headed up during the late 1980’s.  On his return in 1990, with his professional and managerial potential clearly recognised, Neil was appointed a Partner of the UK practice and set about the modernisation of the Winchester office, during which time he successfully landed the largest contract the company has seen to date and subsequently helped guide the firm through two recessions and its transition to a Limited Company.  

An avid cricket and opera fan with hidden passions for filing, felt tip pens and the Pet Shop Boys (!) Neil now intends to spend more time pursuing his passions outside of architecture with his beloved family.  Neil, from all your friends at Radley House, thanks for all your help over the years and we wish you well for the future. 

The White Tower, HM Tower of London Refurbishment of the Flamsteed Tower stairs

Works at the Flamsteed Tower are now complete and the exit stair has been re-opened for the public. 

In the end, the lining for each step of the Norman spiral staircase had to be individually constructed to suit the profile of the curved stone treads and risers.  This included a bespoke metal frame carrier and separation membranes concealed beneath oak joinery and bronze anti-slip nosing’s. 

It is hoped that the new linings will last for another 40 years, plus!

The Maytrees, Hollydale and Ivydale, Four Marks

The development of 5no. Individual, traditional, detached houses to replace a former bungalow at No.71 Lymington Bottom were successfully completed this summer and the development is now fully occupied.  Radley House Partnership designed the residential scheme, which also included a former quarry, and carried out the planning and building regulations packages for the developers.

Capitol House, Winchester

Works are now on site following a successful planning application for the change of use from offices to residential.  The scheme will comprise of 20no. 1&2 bed apartments over the split levels addressing both Bridge Street and Old Station Approach.

No7 Stoney Lane, Winchester

Planning permission has now been awarded for 4no new dwellings, proposed to be located off Stoney Lane, just north of Winchester City Centre. Traditional in architectural style, the dwellings have been designed to overcome a number of challenging constraints on the steeply sloping site.

Award Winners!

Radley House Partnership are delighted to announce that the Northwood Cemetery Heritage Project has won the 2018 Isle of Wight Society’s Conservation Award.  Jeremy Poll, the lead architect, attended the ceremony on behalf of Radley House Partnership, which was held at the Royal Yacht Squadron, Cowes on the 18th of May 2018.  The restoration of the cemetery chapels was undertaken with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund in collaboration with the Friends of Northwood Cemetery and the Isle of Wight Council.  Further information can be found by clicking on the link, below.
